Our Program

Our club meeting speaker this week was Past District Governor (PDG) and District 5770 Rotary Foundation Chair Phil Moss. We dispelled with standing when he was introduced because as one participant noted, "We weren't sure everyone was wearing pants!" :)

Our club is the first for Phil as he makes the round to all the district clubs reminding us how important the work is we support with donations to the RI Foundation. Sooner Rotary is "exemplary" in its support, leading the district with gifts of more than $26,000 last year.

The funds earn interest for three years after which 50% are available for district grants and 50% for global grants, scholarships and response projects, such as Polio Plus. Rotary's global polio vaccination network will likely be in full use to vaccinate for the COVID-19 virus--especially in developing nations.

Phil encouraged everyone to give before the end of June deadline for this year. Every $1 donated is matched with $2 from the Gates Foundation!  Plus 50% of these funds will be available to our district in three years when our own Conni Eckstein will be District Governor!

The RI Foundation is rated with four stars by Charity Navigator, and recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the outstanding foundation in the world!

Our own Jennifer Warren is district grant chair. She reported $36K dollars is available to distribute to clubs in our district this year. There are 10 requests (including one from our club) for a total of $39K, so the committee will be meeting soon to make decisions and award the grants by the first of July.

Thank you Phil for reminding us that we are making a difference by donating to the RI Foundation. Club member and PDG Glenda Thomas added her encouragement, too.

Like Jane said, "All of us working together fill up the bucket."
