Thanks to Jeff Bryant for introducing Dr. Sean Bauman, our speaker.

Sean's late father, Stan Bauman, was a member of Sooner Rotary for many years, so it was old home week! Our club had a vocational tour of IMMY just last Sept!

Sean shared the last 2-3 months of the journey he and his company IMMY have been on to help provide tests and testing to detect the COVID-19 infection and to test for antibodies. Normally, IMMY works in the fungal testing area.

He showed us how the COVID-19 virus has become the number one cause of death in the US in the last few weeks, especially affecting those over 65 and with underlying health issues such as heart disease and diabetes.

IMMY is working with the FDA, OU Health Sciences Center, OSU, the World Health Organization, the Governor's Task Force, Norman Regional Hospital, the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and other metro hospitals to get testing and quick test results.

Quick results for those who may be infected are important, according to Sean, so healthcare workers aren't using PPE on patients they don't need to and so those who are infected can start treatment quickly.

Free tests for the infection are now available in Oklahoma for all who want them, according to Gov. Stitt. Antibody tests may cost.

Sean also pointed out that testing in university and K-12 settings this fall are going to be critical--mainly to protect the instructors/teachers/administration that are at higher risk of infection.

He expects a vaccine next year and said use of plasma from donors with COVID-19 antibodies is an old technology but effective treatment for those in the hospital with COVID-19 today.

Thanks Sean for an informative meeting presentation and all the work you and your team at IMMY are doing to help all of us!
