Jane called our May 5 online meeting to order and shared announcements.

We had lots of Happy Dollars--for family and friends being safe; Master's graduation this week for Reagan Danner-Brooks; impromptu roadside litter pick up by Mary, Terry and Jana; and exceeding fundraising goals for Epilepsy--right Scott!

Dick Pryor reminded us today is #GivingTuesdayNow--a followup to #GivingTuesday right after Thanksgiving to donate to area nonprofits that contribute so much to our community--like KGOU!

Check out our gallery of members attending this week!

Thanks to Jennifer Willis Beckett for introducing Mike Hearne, our speaker.

Mike traveled to Oklahoma from his home in Bridgend, Wales in 2011 to play golf for Southern Nazarene University and liked it so much he stayed!

We learned about his journey to enter real estate, meet his future wife and begin his podcast "This is Oklahoma."

Mike has interviewed 157 Oklahomans to date--all with interesting stories that most wouldn't know by reading their online bios.

One is well-known Oklahoman Hal Smith who once snuck in to see Elvis! Another is Carl Martin who repairs signs but more importantly provides horse therapy to help children with autism and severe anxiety. What a calling!

Mike gave us a snapshot of his home country Wales. Lots of sheep, in the north and south homes (often duplexes) located close together, a fair amount of rain/clouds and plenty of castles--most uninhabited--but how cool is that! He describes it as mostly a "day culture" with trips to the pub to watch the national sport of rugby and home by 10 p.m. His "mum's" a nurse, his dad an engineer and his three grandparents are "alive and kickin'." All are six weeks into lockdown due to the pandemic but doing okay.

Mike has an Instagram account called This is Oklahoma. You also can sign up for his weekly newsletter at his website at www.ThisIsOklahoma.media.

Thanks Mike for reminding us that Oklahomans have great stories to share!
