Mary Jane Calvey- brief bio

Dr. Mary Jane Calvey founded Real World Management Solutions in 2005 after working at Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for fifteen years as their Senior Epidemiologist and Toxicologist. While at DEQ she worked on everything from the Tar Creek Superfund Site, to Emergency Response training as well as the emerging practice of Brownfields. Several of the projects she worked on have won Phoenix Awards. Since starting RWMS she has concentrated on Brownfields but has occasionally agreed to act as an expert witness regarding risks from chemical exposures. Mary Jane received her Ph.D. and MPH from the University of Oklahoma College of Public Health and her MBA from the OU Price College of Business.

Weekly in person meeting Shelley Zumwalt
Aug. 06, 2024 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

As Executive Director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD), Shelley Zumwalt is a powerful voice in Oklahoma state government and brings with her a rich history of state service through her passionate commitment to driving change in government. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Zumwalt’s journey in public service began over a decade ago when she joined the Office of State Finance as an entry-level Budget Analyst. Since then, she’s served in various key roles within state government, including: Public Affairs Director for the Office of the Governor, Executive Director for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and leadership roles at the Office of Management and Enterprise Services and the Oklahoma Healthcare Authority. In role as Executive Director for the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, Zumwalt is driving change through strategic initiatives and sharing her passion for Oklahoma. Zumwalt is committed to making the state a top-tier destination by showcasing its beauty, culture and heritage. In 2022, Oklahoma’s tourism operations attracted more than 18 million visitors, generated $833 million in state and local tax revenue and supported over 103,000 jobs. Zumwalt has helped elevate the profile and shine a spotlight on the economic impact of the tourism sector in Oklahoma which brings in more out of state dollars to Oklahoma than any other industry in the state, aside from the energy sector. Prior to her time leading state tourism, Zumwalt led the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, taking over the agency in May of 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. While there she oversaw the distribution of over $5 billion in unemployment benefits to support Oklahomans during a critical time of need. She did this while also transforming antiquated systems and technology and navigating multiple federal and state challenges.

Rotary Norman Elementary School Crossing Guard Ser
Aug. 15, 2024 7:00 a.m. - 3:31 p.m.
Being a crossing guard is fun and everyone can do it.  If Bob Dill and I can do it, so can you!
2.  I cannot even begin to tell you how much this service project is appreciated by the schools.  Every year I get loads of appreciation (and once I received a marriage proposal) from the schools--they are going crazy inside trying to survive the first day.  Knowing the kids are being taken care outside relieves a lot of pressure.
3.  Attached is the sign up sheet with reflecting those that signed up.  Please email me at terry.boehrer@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 405-659-8373 to let me know what time slot you can help with.  Let me know if there are changes needed.
4.  I will be calling NPS and each school to find out any special instructions and will pass on that information.
5.  Be sure to put the service project on Thursday, August 15th on your calendar

Weekly in person meeting Richie Splitt
Aug. 20, 2024 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

Richie Splitt is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Norman Regional Health System. He leads a team of more than 3,500 healers to fulfill the health system’s mission of serving its community as a leader in health and wellness care. Splitt joined Norman Regional in 2013 as the chief administrative officer of the Norman Regional HealthPlex (168 beds) and Moore Medical Center (44-beds). After one week on the job, an EF-5 tornado destroyed the beloved Moore facility. This tragic and momentous event revealed Splitt’s character as a strong, effective and engaging leader in times of crisis. Splitt helped Norman Regional and its communities find hope, healing, pride and even joy in the face of adversity. In 2017, Splitt was appointed to chief executive officer of the Norman Regional Health System. During his time as President and CEO, NRHS has received numerous clinical recognitions and experienced tremendous growth. Norman Regional has a net revenue of $450 million, 555 licensed beds at its two main campuses, 17 primary care clinics and 25 specialty clinics. Splitt has also led new growth in areas such as population and telehealth – including a direct-toconsumer app called Norman Regional Virtual Care, primary care clinic expansion, and a new transformative campus plan named Inspire Health. Helping others to heal has always been a passion for Splitt. He began his career as a physical therapy technician, providing care to patients for nearly a decade before transitioning into management. Splitt earned his Master of Science in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma and his Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. He is board certified in healthcare management and an American College of Healthcare Executives fellow. In 2020, Splitt was named Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEO by The Journal Record in the non-profit category

Norman's Day of Caring 2024
Sep. 13, 2024 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Norman's "Day of Caring" is on Fri Sep 13th, 2024. Members from Cross Timbers, Sooner, Norman and Legacy Rotary clubs are encouraged to work as one group at a designated non-profit agency that will be selected by the Norman United Way.

The work project starts at 900 am and this year Rotary will be working at the United Way Office, located in the First United Bank. The address is 570 24 Ave NW Ave, Suite 110.  The building is located at the corner of 24th Ave NW and Boardwalk Street, with the parking lot accessible from Boardwalk Street.  The United Way office is sending out a couple thousand of letters and the task will be stuffing envelopes. So this year, the work will be in a comfortable air conditioned office. A box lunch will be provided at the site between 11 am and noon.

Diane Murphree, who was in Sooner Rotary years ago, is the United Way Director of Community Impact and likely will be the person who will coordinate this work effort at the United Way        office.

The event starts at 800 am at Life Church (1500 E Imhoff Rd, Norman, OK 73071) with a light breakfast, coffee and juice are provided. For those who prefer to skip the kickoff, the work project at the designated agency (yet to be determined) starts around 900 am. The work has varied yearly, but it could be yard work, cleaning inside, painting or something similar. The work project usually takes 4 or 5 hours, but you can come and go as it works for your schedule. Box lunches are provided between 11 am and noon, courtesy of The Conference Center at NCED and Bob Usry & Sons (who deliver the lunches).

If you want to volunteer, complete the registration form in the link below by Aug 7th (to ensure you receive a "Day of Caring" T-Shirt and a boxed lunch). On the form where it asks for the "company name", put in Norman Rotary Clubs.
